Nothing can kill a romantic vibe faster than a sexual health issue. The good news is, with your Oscar plan, you have a variety of sexual health benefits at your disposal to ensure your special parts stay shipshape and shiny. Here’s a rundown of everything that’s covered by Oscar.
STI screenings and treatment
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are a major bummer. It’s important to identify and treat STIs as early as possible According to Dr. Amy Esposito, Medical Director at the Oscar Center, if you’ve had unprotected sex, here’s a short list of infections you may want to get screened for.
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
Genital herpes (HSV) – only if you have lesions and your doctor recommends it
Chlamydia
Gonorrhea
Hepatitis A, B, and C
Syphilis
Your or OB-GYN can perform screenings for you. If you’re diagnosed with a STI, Oscar will cover your treatment as long as you get care from a doctor who takes your insurance, and they prescribe drugs in Oscar’s (list of approved prescriptions).
Oscar covers a variety of drugs to help you proactively manage your sexual health, including contraception options and medications to prevent certain STIs.
A few of the most common types of drugs covered under your plan include: Oral birth control (monophasic, biphasic, and triphasic). Spermicides and sponges. Intrauterine devices (IUDs), with and without hormones. Hepatitis A and B vaccines. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), also known as Truvada.
Yeast infections (candidal vulvovaginitis), which are usually treated with oral or vaginal prescription antifungals.
Bacterial vaginosis (BV), which can be treated with an intravaginal antimicrobial.
Erectile dysfunction resulting from an underlying medical condition, which is treated in a variety of different ways depending on the root cause. Treatment options include counseling, lifestyle and prescription dosage changes, medications, and hormone treatments.
