In the fall of 2023, we announced the latest recipients of our Culturally Competent Care (CCC) Grants. Oscar’s CCC Grant Program was established in 2021, to support our mission of using technology, engagement, and empathy to address the systemic barriers in our healthcare system that have made accessing quality healthcare unattainable for many communities.
2023 Grant Focus
We sought out to support organizations serving Hispanic and Latino communities and rural communities with our 2023 grants.
Language barriers can cause disparities in health access and outcomes: for example, 33% of Spanish speakers report problems with physician communications. Hispanic/Latinos & Spanish speakers also experience 30-40% worse health outcomes than White individuals, and are more than twice as likely as their White counterparts to be uninsured. (1)
Limited care access can also be seen in rural communities who typically have significantly less access to healthcare services than their urban counterparts. Approximately 20% of the American population resides in rural areas, yet less than 10% of US healthcare resources are located there. (2)
Aligned with our commitment to support both rural and Hispanic and Latino communities, we awarded our 2023 grants to Community Health Works and MedHaul. We are excited to share the positive impact of these grants for the communities these incredible organizations serve.

Community Health Works
Community Health Works is a Georgia-based non-profit supporting Hispanic and Spanish-speaking communities by improving access to preventive health services, reducing burden on healthcare providers, and advocating for people financially compromised by their medical needs.
