You can sign up for health insurance directly through an insurer, HealthCare.gov (opens in new tab), or your state’s Marketplace (opens in new tab). But sometimes, you need an expert to help you figure out which plan is best for you. That’s where an insurance broker comes in.
Also known as agents, insurance brokers are trained to guide you through a wide array of health insurance options and find the ideal option based on your health needs, financial circumstances, and family situation. While brokers have contracts with specific insurance companies, they’re not employed by them, so they can help you explore plans from multiple different plan providers.
In addition to health insurance, brokers can also help you sign up for other related coverage, such as vision and dental insurance.
