Oscar will expand to 12 new markets for 2020, a third consecutive year of major growth
By Mario Schlosser, CEO and Co-founder, Oscar
The health care system in the United States is broken. We pay more for health care here than in any other country, for no clear benefit to our health. This has to change. Consumers deserve health care that’s easier to navigate, more transparent, and more affordable.
This is exactly what Oscar offers, and we want to reach as many people as possible. So, we’re significantly expanding in 2020, entering six new states and 12 new markets, pending regulatory approval. We’re expanding because our members love what Oscar offers; our net promoter score — which measures how likely members are to recommend Oscar — is double the industry average and clear evidence of that.
Benefits like free, 24/7 Doctor on Call mean that we support our members in ways that other health insurance companies don’t. Free telemedicine is good news for everyone, of course. (On average, our members save $129 every time they talk to our doctors by phone.) But it’s especially valuable if you’re working three jobs to make ends meet, taking care of your family, and in need of care that works for your schedule.
Because our personalized Concierge teams work with our members when they get sick, we can guide them to the right care and save them time and money in the process. On average, members save 10% on health care costs when Oscar routes their care, and 90% of members say they’d recommend the doctors we find for them to their friends.
Our decision to expand is good news for Florida, where we’ll bring our plans to Miami, Tampa, Ocala, and Daytona. It’s good news for Philadelphia, PA; Denver, CO; Richmond, VA; Atlanta, GA; and the Kansas City metropolitan area in Missouri and Kansas. It’s good news for Texas, where we’re moving into Houston and expanding the plan options we offer in Dallas-Fort Worth. And it’s good news for Western Michigan, where we’ll expand to serve several counties.
Being an Oscar member means having a health insurance company that’s always there during challenging moments, and we are eager to be there for new and existing members alike in 2020.
