
If you’re turning 65 in the near future (Happy Birthday, by the way!) you’ve probably received a lot in the mail about Medicare. If you’ve previously been on an individual or family insurance plan through a private insurance company, you’ll notice that Original Medicare plans (aka Medicare plans you can obtain through the US government) work a bit differently. So how do you know which plan is right for you? Don’t worry, we’ll take you through everything you need to know.
How is Medicare different from regular health insurance?
Unlike individual health insurance or the insurance you were getting through your job, union, or other source, Original Medicare only covers hospital and medical benefits.
This means things like prescriptions, dental and vision are not covered by Original Medicare. If you want a plan that offers the same coverage you’re used to - look into supplemental plans.
