“Hi everyone, I'm Dr. Stephanie Camaglia Reznick. I'm a board-certified internist, one of the medical directors for virtual care here at Oscar, and I'm also a mother.
Parenting has never been easy but the pandemic is making it that much harder. As the school year approaches, I know this is highlighting many of the challenges of this pandemic. Do I send my child in for in-person school? Do I teach them from home? How do I teach them from home? What if in-person schooling is not an option?
I wish I had a good answer for you but I don't.
What I do recommend is that we remain respectful of each other's choices. Each family is trying to do the very best they can during this difficult situation.
Another thing I can recommend is that as tempting as it may be to defer in-person routine care for your kids during the pandemic, it's important not to forgo their vaccinations. Just because COVID-19 is here does not mean that measles, whooping cough, and the other scary infections that already existed are gone. This is why it's important for children to stay on schedule with their childhood vaccinations.
If you're curious what your child may be due for, you can check out the CDC website. Of course you can also call your pediatrician - they are always a wealth of information.
